How we vet window and door installers
We check registration, insurance and references, look at a finished install, and confirm the firm installs to the manufacturer’s instructions so the warranty holds. The full Standard →
When to book
Spring and fall are easiest. Orders take weeks, so measure and order well before you need them in.
Across the Valley
Big temperature swings and strong summer sun are hard on window seals across the Valley, and south- and west-facing windows tend to fail first.
Red flags.
If you hear any of these from a firm, keep looking.
- High-pressure “today only” pricing
- Won’t name the window brand and series
- Skips flashing and sealing the rough opening
Common questions.
Replace the window or just the glass?
If only the seal failed and the frame is sound, replacing the glass unit can be enough.
Will new windows lower my energy bill?
Usually somewhat, most noticeably when replacing single-pane or failed windows. Comfort and noise often improve more than the bill.
Do I need a permit?
Like-for-like replacements often don’t. Changing the opening size or adding an egress window usually does.
