The details.

How we vet painters
We confirm registration and insurance and, for homes built before 1978, that the firm is EPA lead-safe certified, which federal rules require when paint is disturbed. Then references and a finished job. The full Standard →
When to book
Exterior painting runs from late spring to early fall, when warm, dry weather lets paint cure. Interior work happens year-round.
Across the Valley
Sun fades and chalks exterior paint fastest on south and west walls everywhere in the Valley. Older homes in Boise, Nampa and Caldwell are the most likely to need lead-safe work.
Red flags.
If you hear any of these from a firm, keep looking.
- No mention of prep: scraping, sanding, priming
- A pre-1978 house and no lead-safe certification
- A price that doesn’t say how many coats or which paint
Common questions.
How often should I repaint the exterior?
High-desert sun is hard on paint, and south and west walls fail first. Many homes here need repainting every seven to ten years.
Could my house have lead paint?
Homes built before 1978 may. Certified firms test for it and use lead-safe methods.
Can exterior painting happen in winter?
Rarely. Exterior paint needs temperatures above the product’s minimum for several days. Interiors can be painted any time.
