How we vet landscape and irrigation contractors
Idaho has no state landscaping license, so we check contractor registration, insurance, references and a finished install. Firms that apply fertilizer with weed control or other pesticides must hold an Idaho State Department of Agriculture applicator license, which we verify. The full Standard →
When to book
Sprinkler systems start up in spring when irrigation water comes on and need blowing out before the first hard freeze. Installs run spring through fall.
Across the Valley
Clay soil across much of the Valley drains slowly, so drainage and watering schedules matter. Canyon County yards often water from ditches and canals; Ada County subdivisions more often use pressurized irrigation.
Red flags.
If you hear any of these from a firm, keep looking.
- Can’t tell you whether your system runs on city water or irrigation-district water
- No backflow preventer on a system tied to drinking water
- Quotes a full redesign when a few heads are broken
